Phil, Dick Bartlett wrote in his Florida Field Guide about a likely undescribed subspecies in the Upper Keys – this is what has me all riled up about a trip to Florida. Bartlett says “it is particularly variable in coloration and pattern. It’s status is currently being researched.” Out of all the dbts, I believe Malaclemys terrapin rhizophorarum is the most seclusive and rare. I have seen only a couple of pictures of the subspecies and every individual looked very different from one to another. I am curious as to what a true phenotype of the subspecies looks like. Maybe you’ll be able to discover this in your future foray into Southern Florida. All the best to you. I have incubated my eggs both at room temperature and at 86F. I didn’t care about sex ratios when incubating at room temp but was obviously hoping for females at 86F. Cheers, Chun — In diamondbackterrapins@egroups.com, allman_p
