Rowena, Welcome to the group. Wow, I didn’t realize dbts were sold in meat markets anymore. Recently, I had heard of sliders, cooters and softshells but it’s been awhile since I’ve read of dbts being sold as food. It looks like most of your questions have been answered with the exception of the salt issue. As you can probably see by the poll results, most of us in the group tend to keep them in freshwater. I have kept them in both brackish and freshwater. Although I do currently have some salt in my dbt pond, it is technically not enough to pass off as brackish water; hence I voted fresh. If you want to do brackish water, you could use a cup of rock salt for every 20gal. of water or add marine salt to a specific gravity of 1.015-1.017.
