Just to piggyback on that….. I once came across a female texas map turtle, in the middle of winter here in central Texas (mild day), in a long pool in a crystal clear creek, about 6 feet deep, that had 3 males trying to mate with her, at least courting heavily, with 3 other males at various lengths behind her, that couldn’t see her, that were obviously following a long scent trail.
