I am no expert, but this is my experience. I have two hatchlings about the same size (3 inches), they are three months old. I have them in a 70 gal display tank, the water is 19inches deep. They’ve been living in the tank since they were a week old. When they first hatched I kept they in only a inch of water for a week. After a week I put them into the lager tank. It took them almost two weeks to gain enough strength to swim down to the bottom of the new tank. Every since then they swim up and down all the time. I can’t imagine that any tank would be too deep after they are over a week old and/or strong enough to swim good. Jonathan for .
