Thanks for all the help. All 31 remaining eggs hatched over the last couple of weeks. Now I have a new problem about 80% of the turtles hatch have slight shell deformities. All the shell deformities are located on the rear of the shell. Some of the turtles have extra plates, other have plates that look like they divided in half. I wish I had pictures to show what I am talking about. A breeder friend told me that this is referred to the deformities as a deformed scoot. Seven of the turtles turned out fine. I have three males but only one is active with the females. I have three other turtles from my first nest the hatched on their own outside and two have similar shell problem. Which leads me to believe that it must a genetic thing pasted on from the father. The father does not have any shell problems. The babies are doing great most are eating very well already. And as for the three turtles that hatched several months ago, they are almost four inches already and look great. I would like any info about what else could have caused these shell deformities. Thanks Jonathan Extra info: The females that laid the eggs are older wild catch. The male came from a different seller Two of the females that laid eggs came from a different seller The incubation temperature was never over 84 degrees The 9 adult DBT share almost a pound of smelt every otherday The previous own of 3 of the females was never able to get them to lay any eggs This is the first time that I have gotten any eggs from them, except for one nest last year. All the terrapins are healthy now. When I first some of them I had a very big problem with shell rot, but that has been under control for over a year.
