i told you earlier that there was brown/green algae in my tank and was concerned about what it was. you told me to see how the feeder fish were acting and they are acting fine. i have cleaned the tank fairly often, but it is still there. do i have anything to worry about? or am i just being paranoyed?

we get the algae from the lights,it seems to be sparked by the reptomin that settles along the wall and the basking lights speed the growth. It has never harmed our snapper,red-ears,or side-necks. Hi All! I also get the algae in my tanks ~ not just in my diamondback terrapins either. It is completely normal and I find that it grows more quickly with the warmer water tanks or the length of time that the lights are on. We had tropicals at one time in a 100 gal. and if it wasn’t for our plecos I would have spent I think everyday cleaning the glass. In my hatchling “sweater boxes” I let the growth stay on the sides a little. I feel it’s a good water quality watch ~ can’t explain why I think that??!! And since you can’t see thru the sweater boxes it doesn’t really matter. I also get it on my basking cork and I will see the turtles pick at it from time to time? Any thoughts on that anyone? A veggie source?? Have a great day everyone! Sharon Tony and Judy Simmons wrote:

HI everyone, while I don’t have the privilege of owning Diamonds yet, I do have several other turtle species. I have one tank that is almost two years old and algae all over the rocks. As long as your water quality is good I wouldn’t worry about that. Like Sharon said, They will nibble from time to time. If you have pea soup than that would be a problem. Also, it gives them a more natural look. Good luck, Dom
