Ok I picked up some Acriflavin plus, I did a water change to make sure it was all clean and added the amount recommended on the bottle (1 teaspoon per 5 gallons). I also added “Jungle Aquarium Salt” (1 tablespoon per 5 gallons “to promote recovery”) I have a few questions 1) this sounds dumb, but_ is it supposed to turn the water green from the Acriflavin? 2) my northern isn’t swimming much, should I remove the basking area for a few hours so he has to swim in the medicine and salt? Is it ok for him to eat and drink in this water? 3) How long should I keep the Acriflavin and salt in the water to treat the fungus? how long will it take to heal, when can I put him back in with the other turtles? 4) also will it help the possible respiratory infection at all? 5) I have a concentric and a southern paint hatchling in a 55 gallon, should I add salt as a preventative measure, will it hurt the paint, will they need fresh water to drink? Thank you guys for your help thus far D. Hendrick

Removing the basking area is a good idea. I would remove it at night and then put it back in when the basking lights turn on. I would keep the Acriflavin in the water until the fungus has scabbed over and the scabs have fallen off. He will be fine to eating and drinking in the water. I don’t think it will do any thing for a respiratory infection. I know painted turtles can’t take living in brackish water. I don’t know if 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons will do any thing to him. DBTs can get rid of the salt in the water they drink but other turtles can’t and I can eventually cause death.
