Not that I’m an expert, and I don’t work in a zoo, (at times I think I live in one) but there were stories or rumors of inter grades in east Texas. But I don’t think those stories ever held water in the face of educated observers. That being said I take quiet pleasure in observing how often herps break the rules and don’t read the books detailing their behavior. Delavan is way north for the range , tho I have talked to an intelligent, literate, observer who said Alligator Snappers were caught near Moline Illinois in the early 1960s. I mostly believed this fellows story. How about pictures, the larger head and hooked “beak” of the Alligator is pretty unmistakable. I hope you can track this down, it is a very interesting question. His head is all alligator snapper but his beak is more hooked than not,,,I think it may be a little deformed b/c the turtle is all puckered up. Like he/her took their dentures out. I will put some pics out there in the next day…thanks
