Hi again, Can someone let me know if they think it will work well to have the filter way at one end of a 65 gallon (48″x18″) tank? Logistically I cant get the filter into the middle of the tank. I am afraid it is going to let bad things pool up at the other end. Oh, it is a Fluval 404 and I am going to guess there is approx. 40 gallons of water in there, probably more like 35 actually, judging from how many trips I took up the stairs with a 5 gal bucket. 🙂 Thanks, Carole http://www.reptilecare.com

Use crushed coral. Then they will get the calcium they need as well as grind their beaks. Place a hagan power head that pumps ~300-400 gallons per hour at one end opposite to the fluval. You can also get a quick connect filter to attach to the powerhead. This will keep your water moving so the fluval will clean it effectively. I had a similar setup on a 75 gallon and it worked well. Hi, thanks for the info. Is the Hagen you speak of a “Quickfilter”? That is the one I find at Bigalsonline. Here is a link to it. It seems to do some more filtering too? http://www.bigalsonline.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi If that doesnt work it is the HAGEN POWERHEAD QUICK-FILTER 802 – Thanks, Carole

Carole, That is it. You will want to place it at one end and aim it at the midline of the back wall. You will see why when you get it. It will clear a cloudy tank of about 50 gallons in a few minutes. Not much will settle out in your gravel. It will add a little life to a stagnant tank to say the least. 🙂 BBM — In diamondbackterrapins@y…, “Reptileszz” http://www.bigalsonline.com/cgi- bin/view.cgi If that doesnt work it is the well 400 get keep a wrote: well am Oh, it gallons how http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/

Hi, thanks a lot. I will get one perhaps tomorrow if they are reasonable or even available locally. Otherwise I will order online and wait. Thanks again. Carole

OK, does anyone have a suggestion for a SUBMERSIBLE power head? I have a problem in that I need this tank covered as an iguana freeroams the room. If it is not covered it becomes his toilet. I have the cover over a few inches for the fluval tubes to get in thru but I cant perch a powerhead on the other end. It would have to be in the water with just the cord coming out. Or wait, is that a bad idea? Will the turtles chew on the cord? Thanks again for any advice, Carole

I have had a penguin power head lowered to the bottom of my 125 gallon tank for a couple of years now. I use this to keep debris from gathering on the bottom of the tank. All debris is circulated through the tank and removed by the filters. The turtles have pulled it out from the rocks, where I have it wedged, but they have never chewed the cord. Penguin power heads are water tight and are not damaged or dangerous when fully submerged. Jimmy
