my female db was put on antibiotics be the veterinarian because of shell rot and a possible vitamin deficiency. i have to give her the shot every three days. well, it is hard to do this by myself, (since she kicks and bites), but yesterday i seemed to manage. the question is does it matter where you give the shot? i have seen the vet give it to her in her arm, but the only place i could seem to do it was in her leg. you don’t have to hit a vein, just get it under the skin right?

I have had experience with giving Baytril under three different vets. The first prescribed oral. The second instructed me to give an injection in the front legs, getting the needle under the scales horizontally. My new vet instructed me to give injections behind either front leg, inserting the needle into the muscle just forward of the shell bridge between the carapace and the plastron. That has been a very easy place to inject for me. You can use a cloth over the turtle’s head to prevent biting if that’s a problem. My only antibiotic injection experience so far has been with Baytril into muscle. Best to doublecheck with your vet or get a second vet opinion for the specific antibiotic you are giving.
