I have a spotted turtle that has all of a sudden become lethargic and having bloody stools. The stools are small and the blood is red so Im guessing she is bleeding somewhere in the large intestines. I know this is a dbt group but you guys are so knowledgeable and I’d appreciate any suggestions. We have no turtle vet available in the area until Tuesday, that’s 4 days from now which is too late. i don’t know if it’s any significance, but i changed the water 4 hours before she became lethargic and conditioned the water. Thanks. Jeff
Hi, do you have any substrate(gravel) or something else that could have been injested in the tank? has a fecal been done? is he eatting? basking? temps ok? check for bite marks. was something left behind after the water change that he could have injested? If you want spotted turtle care, try the site http://www.turtleforum.com as they are verya knowledgable and helpful group.
Thanks. I don’t have any substrate in the tank. I kept her out of the tank for the night on a soft towel with a heating pad at 80 degrees under her. The next morning she was hiding in the towel and back to almost normal. By the end of the day she was fine. I have no idea what happened but it looked like she would have definately drowned if I didn’t see her and pull her out of the water because of whatever the bloody stuff was. It looked almost like a miscarriage? Sorry if that disgusts anyone, but I work at a place where we look at specimens from surgeons and that’s the best way I can describe it. Thanks for everyones. help. Jeff
