Hi all.. I need something to help keep the algae down..even if just a little. Was thinking of using the Large snails from petshops… but not sure they are safe if the terrapin eats them. I don’t want to use chemicals and any sucker fish is just going to end up as dinner… Any thoughts? thanks in advance, Billie

DON’T feed any snails (from the pet shops or wild ones that can be prolific outside) to a terrapin! I recently learned the hard way that snails are an intermediary host for flukes, and not only is your diamondback in danger of getting this parasite, depending on what stage these parasites are in, you can also get them through your skin just by handling your animal or putting your hand in their tank water. We are both being treated for flukes now, & it’s not a pleasant experience. Also, beside not having algae eaters in your tank for dinner, don’t feed terrapins goldfish or other live fish. They’re carriers for tapeworms & other parasites, which he’s experienced. All fish treats should be frozen or dried. My terrapin loves the dried fish that I happen to find in the pet store cat dept. as cat treats! For algae, I cautiously use the mildest chemical algae destroyer at the most minimal amount that I have to, available at my local pet store. If you want more info on the brand that I found that works for me, or the cat/terrapin treats that I use, just ask & I can post.Shana
