I just noticed that my 300 watt Acura heater in my 90 gal tank is only getting the temp up to 74 degrees. I was getting an 80 degree reading not too long ago. I cranked the temp adjust all the way up. Probably this is not a problem in the Summer when the house temp is a bit higher than now. Maybe the house voltage dropped slightly? Anyway, I am going to add a second 300 watt Acura heater to the other end of the tank and see if I can get the temp up to 80 degrees that way. Anyone else ever have a heater problem? Bob
MacrospilotaApril 18, 2001 at 3:17 pm #14810Becareful… Don’t leave the heater all the way up. The thermostat in the heater does not control the voltage but only when it is on or off. THe heater heats the same whenever it is on. I have cooked several tanks this way. The heaters will only elevate the temp a certain amount above the room the tank is in. This depends on tank size and wattage. 74 is fine for them, a constant 80 is not necessary for the dbts. The temp will come up when the house does. The heater should be running if you had it set on 80 and the tank droppped below that. a second heater would help keep the temp higher. Scott
irnbru@erols.comApril 19, 2001 at 5:48 am #14811Scott, Thanks for the advise. I did crank the thermostat all the way up but it still seems to be cycling on and off. But, in view of what you said I will drop the thermostat down a notch from all the way up just to make sure it doesn’t lock itself on all the time. I don’t want to make soup! Your right, the dbt’s don’t seem to be upset with 74 degrees F – they still get really excited at feeding time. Bob
