Does anyone know if standard aquarium sealant is harmful to fish or turtles, and what about PVC glue? I just wanted to glue a plastic partition into a glass tank for my hatchlings. Any suggestions? Thanks! Rachel
macrospilotaJune 25, 2002 at 6:54 pm #17296Silicone and the pvc glue will be ok but just give it 48 hours to cure.
Glaeser Walt-P55431June 26, 2002 at 1:17 pm #17298Silicone adhesive is fine IMHO. I’ve had no adverse effects from turtles or fish, and fish are the “canaries in the mine” for the tank. They’ll show effects before turtles… Walt G. —–Original Message—– From: Rachel Reese [mailto:emily@…] Sent: Tuesday, June 25, 2002 12:15 PM To: diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com Subject: [diamondbackterrapins] aquarium sealant Does anyone know if standard aquarium sealant is harmful to fish or turtles, and what about PVC glue? Glaeser Walt-P55431June 26, 2002 at 8:18 pm #17300You have to be sure it’s adhesive, though, not caulk, if you’re using it to “glue” stuff together, like basking rocks or plexiglass to glass… The key, as somebody said, is to let it cure outside the water for a short time. As for your comment on “saving a dollar or two”, money’s no object when it comes to my turtles! 😉 Walt G. —–Original Message—– From: draybar@… [mailto:draybar@…] Sent: Wednesday, June 26, 2002 4:58 PM To: diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [diamondbackterrapins] aquarium sealant In a message dated 6/26/02 1:25:27 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Walt.Glaeser@… writes: Silicone adhesive is fine IMHO. You really should use either Aquarium silicone or silicone that is food safe. Do not take chances just to save a dollar or two Jimmy To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: diamondbackterrapins-unsubscribe@egroups.com Your use of Yahoo!
