I used to run a HOT 250 filter on my 75 gal aquarium. Then I bought a Magnum 350. Don’t have the stomach to toss the HOT 250, so I left it there chugging away. Then it hits me today: I can replace the carbon in the HOT 350 with some bio media! But what should I use? Magnum doesn’t provide it, and I’ve never used bio media? Tips on what I should put in the HOT 250, and where to get it?

However, the next best thing to fluidized sand are probably bio-balls. Coralife (ESU) is one of the brands I know of that sells bio-balls. The only thing is they don’t retail, so you’d have to find a retailer that carries them. However, you can look at their description of their product at their catalog at: http://www.esuweb.com/HTML/C_HP.htm From there, go to Maintenance Products and scroll down. They also carry a media called bio-sponge ball which may be even better… -Chun

I just received the latest paper catalogue from Petwharehouse in the mail for aquarium supplies and they have a couple of pages of bio-media products listed from many manufaturers. I had been thinking of doing this too, but hadn’t had time to study up on what media to put in the Magnums. Any suggestions? Todd terrapin@… wrote:

Concerning media for Magnums. If for some reason you want to use bio media for the magnum then I would suggest something like the bio media used in the Fluvals or the bio media used in the BioLife filters such as the BioLife 55. I have not kept up with the changes in bio media but these “ceramic” media are a lot smaller then the Bio balls I had in my trickle filter. You would want as many pieces of bio media as possible. The more the better, so the smaller the better? Jimmy
