Black DBT?

I have a question for you guys…..I read somewhere that there is a variant of DBT that is black or dark colored? Can you please tell me if you know–what kind is it, and are there any available??
Hi, Some northerns came be nearly all black and most pileatas (mississippi) are close to completely black. Pileatas are the darkest of the subspecies and rearly for sale in. You will have a much better chance of finding a black northern available. Good Luck Jonathantheiremailaddress2003
Thx for getting back with me on that! Apparently, the adult pair I am getting are from GA and are concentric. I have yet another question………Do DBT’s live like other aquatic turtles as far as amount of time spent in the water and amount of time spent basking? Yes, they have all of the same basic needs as other turtles but require more additional care. If you are getting wild caught adults you will need to be prepared to feed them seafood, since most will not take to pellets rigth away if ever. Also they will need brackish water. i was told that they have been in fresh water for quite a while, but i asked for specifics on that-as in exactly how long….i think i might just tell the guy to not send the adult wild caught pair…. i already feed things like shrimp to my other turts, but i am thinking i would be better off starting with the hatchlings that are used to fresh water…what do you guys think? — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, Diamondback Terrapin World
I’ve kept the Mississippi dbts before. They are very dark in color and are pretty popular in the wild where I’m from. I eventually phased mine out to Texas dbt. We have both and prefered the lighter texas over the all dark Mississippi. Also it was very hard to keep up with the brackish water needed for the wild caughts. I didn’t have the right filter system set up to keep the water clean and had to change the water every two weeks or so. On top of that I had to make trips to the local marina to get a fifty pound bag of salt to get the salenity right. Eventually the work took to much time and I had to return them back to the wild.theiremailaddress2003
