I received this e-mail from Branden and I thought the egroup might be interested in listening in: Hey Jonathan, two other things cross my mind. One being, the brackishwater debate. First off, do you recommend adding salt gradually untilit is at the desired level or go ahead and add it all at once? Atwhat age or size do you recommend doing this at? My guess would be at1 year, at which this is the time they would make the transition inthe wild? Do you have a favorite brand or recommend a brand, and or,know where I might be able to purchase it at? I know you mentionedthe grocery store in which your site recommends no pellets of disc andmake sure that its at least 97% pure salt for water softeners. Also,do you recommend the use of supplements for the DBT’s diet? Thanksagain.LaterBranden Hi Branden, Captive born hatchlings do fine in fresh water. As most people here know I do keep all of my adults in brackish water. I normally switch them over when they are a year old (around 4 inches). Gradually changing them from fresh to brackish water sounds like a good idea but honestly I have always just dropped them into my breeding setup. So far I have never had a problem. I use the solar dried salt for water softens. I get my salt at the grocery store and I normally get the store brand as most of the other companies add stuff to the pellets. It should be 97% pure salt and the salt crystals look like rock salt. If your DBTs are eating commercial food they shouldn’t really need supplements.
