Wednesday___s Terrapin Meeting Update:Representing area individuals and conservation organizations, The Chesapeake Terrapin Alliance was formed; a working group committed to preserving the health of the Chesapeake Bay’s terrapin populations.On Wednesday evening a group of key individuals gathered in meeting space graciously provided by the National Aquarium in Baltimore to discuss the terrapin harvest regulations proposed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Division in preparation for the public meeting they are hosting on July 10 at 7:00 pm. At this time the DNR will present and discuss these emergency and permanent terrapin fishery regulations that would go into effect by October 1, 2006 as required by HB980 ___ Natural Resources: Terrapin. The Chesapeake Terrapin Alliance discussed the potential effects of the proposed regulations and developed recommendations to present both at the July 10 public meeting and in a consensus letter to be delivered before the end of the public comment period on July 17. We will pursue additional items generated by the evening___s discussions through email and future meetings.
