curious behavior…

A few days ago I finally put my six month old WCT in its new 96 gal tank. The tank is fairly empty but I did put a large fake conch shell in there, about 10″ long, 6″ tall. Since then the turt spends most of the time getting under this huge shell and shoving it aroung the tank – from one end to the other and back again, just pushing it around and the shell is five times the size of the turt! Can anyone enlighten me on what this behavior is all about? Eating and basking behavior is normal. I am a beginner at all this and I’m still not sure if I have a male or female. To me the tail looks more like a female but the plastron is definately concave. The nails on the front legs are short…thanks so much for all the expert advice. Kathleen
