i went to petsmart to look for cuttle bone and found it was in the section of the store for birds. on the label i read that it had lime in it and other things i was unsure about putting in a turtle tank. is it okay for it to be left in the water (brackish). did i not see the right type? is there one made for turtles?
Not too sure about the lime, but the cuttlebone in the bird section is what you’re looking for. Sometimes the pet store people will give you a strange look, though, when you mention that its for your turtle. I’ve heard you should use something to scrape/pry the harder “skin” off the back of it before you give it to your turtle. My dbt never had an interest in it until I started peeling off that layer, and now she really digs it. I normally just break off a small piece whenever I notice she’s finished what I last gave her. Sometimes it goes awhile before she finishes it, other times its gone in 10 minutes. After awhile, it’ll stop floating, but its still fine to leave in the tank. — nikkicoco11
