Sorry for asking this again, but still haven’t figured it out… What is the best (man-made) diet for them..other than an all natural wild diet.. I have a 3 year old female and I normally give ZM turtle diet, with human grade thawed shrimp given about once a week or so. I have looked at all the different brands of aquatic turtle diet and most are plant based and made for sliders and other omnivorous turtles. But the terrapin is carnivorous so those pellets would be ok, but not great. Funny, ZM has a turtle treat with pic of dbt, but ingredients that they do not eat..like berries… Also have read that the freezing process for human grade seafood can cause health problems in turtles/terrapins. so what should I be feeding her? If processed pellets, Is there one brand preferred over the other? Or has products made just for carnivorous turtles? Most of those pellets are corn or soy based, but there has to be something made for them, or breeders wouldn’t keep them so healthy…right?? thanks in advance, B

Attachments :Here___s something I used successfully for my DBTs/ Costco sells a one pound can of crab meat for around $14. Packed in water and, I recall, homogenized. Nothing added and refrigerated, not frozen. The guys loved it! Once in a while I would get them fresh shrimp at the grocer___s. These in addition to pellets, of which many are available, and I presume all are OK. The main recommendation is oft heard but rarely followed. DON___T OVERFEED! Once every 2-3 days is adequate. Otherwise you get that ugly, excessive shell growth called pyramiding. You want the carapacial seems to resemble ___butt joints,_ not ___lap joints._ J Regards, Dick From: diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com [mailto:diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of N_I_M_B_YSent: Monday, May 16, 2011 8:10 PMTo: diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.comSubject: [diamondbackterrapins] DBT DIET QUESTIONS Sorry for asking this again, but still haven’t figured it out…What is the best (man-made) diet for them..other than an all natural wild diet..
