i was wondering if it would make a difference if i put a hatchling (well, a one inch i guess) with a female db that is about 3.5 inches long? is it typical for them to “parent” other young db’s or hurt them? i thought that since the larger one is a female that might inspire her to parent a smaller db. any thoughts on this? thanks– Lindsay also, i read about db laws in florida, where could i find info about kentucky? or does anyone know about laws here?

I’m not this far in keeping DBT’s, but I have as yet to find any turtle that exhibits maternal instincts as we know them other than how to lay eggs. tony — nikkicoco11 http://www.theturtleranch.com "God," I said. "This is terrible. Do something." "I have," God said softly. "I made you."

Lindsay, diamondbacks like most reptiles are left to fend for their own. They do not have any maternal instincts past deposition of the eggs. Your female may not hurt the hatchling purposely but there is always the possibility of accidents with such a large size discrepancy. I seriously doubt that there are any laws regulating diamondback ownership in Kentucky since the species does not occur naturally there. At the very most, you may want to be aware of any city/county zoning laws that may apply to exotic pets. Hope that helps. -Chun — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, “nikkicoco11”
