Thanks for all the information about parasites and available Vets! One of the reptile specialists at Fin & Feather pet shop in Eureka recommended the Garberville Vet Hosp., and I looked up on ARAV’s website, and found that the vet there, Dr. Roy Smith, is listed as a member. But due to the distance, I went to Arcata Vet Hosp. I had done a lot of research before I went in, and took in several specimens and my terrapin, and I seemed to know more about it than the vet. But she was very nice & did listen, did take the specimens back with her to the microscope, and concluded the terrapin has pin worm eggs, and gave me medicine for that. I kept pursuing with her about the strands of “fettuccine” that everyone thought was tapeworms & she was unsure of, so she took pictures of it, and posted it on a Vet Help Site. She called back the next day to say that the specimens were indeed tapeworms, and prescribed a different medicine for that parasite. So I’m in the process of treating Terrie for 2 different kinds of worms, and thoroughly cleaning her tank. My conclusion is that next time, I’m going down to Garberville to see the vet there, if I need to take in a herp again. Also, No More Live Fish for my terrapin – I had only given her one occaiaionally as a treat, but seems to be the source of the parasites. She’s on a dried food only diet from now on, which fortunately she loves. Thanks for all the help, Shana

Hey Shana! That’s great news…………..sounds like your little one will be ready to go in no time! I agree with you, live fish are over-rated and not really needed as long as you are feeding them a high quality and varied diet. Take care, Jimbo
