I had been feeding my dbts Aquamax 500 (trout chow) and to give them a change I sometimes would give them VitaKraft Mixed Reptile after their Aquamax. They love the VitaKraft and now the dbts don’t want the Aquamax 500 anymore. There is some pellets in the VitaKraft but I notice that they will skip those pellets too. They just want to eat that dried shrimp and dried worms all the time. I suspect the Aquamax is more nutritious because the VitaKraft looks more like snack food to me. Since I bought a 50 lb bag of the Aquamax I am not amused. I’m thinking of taking VitaKraft off their menu and offering them only Aquamax. What should I do? Bob

Different groups of mine get partial to one food brand/type over another. Don’t have any answers. Most of mine love the Aquamax, but I restrict it because it fouls the water in smaller tanks faster than some of the other turtle foods. I haven’t found any of my turtles interested in whatever those pellets are in the Vitakraft. No matter how much any of my species are begging, not one has eaten those pellets! But they love the shrimp, etc. I just found out that NASCO sells 50 lb bags of Turtle Brittle for $116.00 plus $19.00 shipping. I found an online source that sells T-Rex Juvenile and Adult pellets (by far my and most of my turtles’ favorite brand) in 50 lb bags for $85.00, but I haven’t found out about shipping yet. I know Flukers sells their pellets in at least 25 lb bags, but I haven’t found an online source. Anyone know of a site selling Flukers foods in larger sizes? So far, all I’ve found is 4 lbs jars for about $10.00. I finally have seen one online source selling Mazuri turtle pellets, but only in the small 1 lb consumer size. My local feed store has never bothered to order a 50 lb bag, so I am tempted to order a pound on line to test it to see if it would be worth finding a bulk supplier. Anyone find any other bulk pellet brands/suppliers? Todd in Texas irnbru@… wrote:

Thanks Todd, You are really keeping on top of the food. Well, if they are supposed to be eating the Aquamax I will restrict their VitaKraft. I make mine eat in a rubbermaid 13.5 gal tub so I don’t care about the water fouling. Mine like to quit eating when they want something else – so it is a matter of which is the most stubborn – me or them. Those VitaKraft pellets are strange – they get to be 10 times their original size when they absorb water! You reminded my that I have to try T-Rex and Turtle Brittle. My local pet store has the VitaKraft but not the T-Rex. Not sure if Pet Warehouse has T-Rex or not. Bob — In diamondbackterrapins@y…, Todd Stockwell http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/

I would offer the shrimp only once (or twice) a week. Since dbts always seem to act like they’re starving (“Hey, you know I just fed you 10 minutes ago, you fakirs.”), they shouldn’t be able to hold out that long. -Rick irnbru@… wrote:
