Haven’t seen too much on this subject. I feed my 4 month old daily and my older dbt every other. Their primary source of food is Reptomin. So how many sticks is enough for a 4 month old? I’ve been giving him approx. 10-14 sticks daily which he happily devours and is eager for more. But to me, that seems like more than enough. Same goes for the old one, how much do you think is enough for him?? Thanks for everyone’s help!! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail – now with 250MB free storage. I have a 1yr+ old DBT, which is roughly 6 inches in length. I truly believe that I fed him too much in his early days, but at the time I didn’t do my research and now I regret it. The reason I say this is because his shell isn’t as pretty as some of the others I see on the internet. However, he has tons of energy, and seems extremely healthy. Some people even purposely overfeed DBT’s just so they grow faster. Not sure if there is any truth to this or not though. Everything I have read says that DBT’s will eat almost as much as you are willing to give them, since they don’t know when their next meal is coming. I feed mine a little bit (around 15 sticks) twice a day, but I’ve also read that some people feed adults every other day for 5 minutes, as much as the turtle can eat. The way my guy eats, I think he could eat a whole CAN of Reptomin in 5 minutes ๐ The twice a day seems to be working fine for me. He is hungry when I feed him, and he has plenty of life in him. Hi guys, I am not an expert – just watch what people here say. I am feeding Shelby (9 mos?) once a day and Terrance (baby) twice a day. I am hoping Terrance will catch up in size quickly so we can have them both in the same tank. btw – thanks for all the biting info! NicoleRobert Danka

Terrance is really small – I’m not sure how old he is. His shell is about the size of a quarter. I’ve had him since Thanksgiving and I think my friends found him in their garage a couple of months prior to that. He is not much of an eater (but appears healthy otherwise). I put him in a feeding tank twice a day. He doesn’t eat much that I can see. He won’t eat bloodworms (live or frozen) and he only picks at frozen brine shrimp a little. He also didn’t seem interested in frozen smelt or fresh raw shrimp and fish. The only thing he really liked was raw hamburger, but I’ve only given it to him twice. Oh – and there are live ghost shrimp in his tank with him but only a few, and I don’t think he’s caught any since they are still there. But he must be eating ’cause he’s pooping! Do you know of any appetite stimulants? I’d really like him to grow some so he can go in the big tank with Shelby. Nicole Dan Dan

If his appetite is minimal you might try raising the temperature to 80F to 82F if it is not there already. Of course, some just are never good eaters. — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, Nicole Shank

Nicole, Another thing that may help is ensuring he gets a good 12-14 hour stint of bright UV lighting (and his basking light(s)) per day… timers are great inventions that could help ensure his internal clock thinks it’s summertime by providing him with regular long day light periods that don’t vary much… my investment in a couple good timers has helped me immensely as I find it very difficult to remember to turn on and off their lights at the appropriate times… I don’t seem to program as easily! ๐ Michelle —–Original Message—– From: morton57 [mailto:emneil@…] Sent: Saturday, December 11, 2004 1:19 PM To: diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com Subject: [diamondbackterrapins] Re: Dietary Intake If his appetite is minimal you might try raising the temperature to 80F to 82F if it is not there already.
