First, I would like to thank Rick again for providing me with three great DBs. And to add my own experience with the recent shipping thread, all three turtles arrived fine here and by Airborne Express. The box was marked as live turtles too. Now for my problem. The female of the bunch has a large bunch of scales on her left front foot that are turning a brownish color, and look a lot like sand. She spends a long time digging around at the bottom of the tank which has a sand substrate. At first I thought it was just some sand stuck to her, so I caught her and tried to rub it off, but it’s her actual scales that are changing color. I have seen Diamondbacks go into a shed before, but their scales tend to turn pale, not brownish. There are much smaller patches of these discolorations on her right leg as well, and the bottoms of her back feet. The two males on the other hand show no signs of these discolorations. They also don’t burrow around in the sand either as much as the female, they don’t slep partially burrowed as she does either. In case anyone is wondering, I keep them in freshwater.
Ack! Sounds weird! I’ve never seen that before, but I never use sand, so that might be the problem. Can you get rid of the sand? Hope all goes well. -Rick ADestroyah@… wrote:
