how is Brackishwater good for dbt
Terrapins are found in nature only in brackish water. It is always a good idea to try and duplicate the conditions of a turtles native habitat. In my experience, the brackish water prevents and heals many skin and shell problems such as open sores on the skin, fungus on the shell and skin, and shell rot. Captive bred and young terrapins can usually be kept in freshwater with great results. Freshly wild caught terrapins however seem to develop problems if kept in freshwater. I am not sure why wild caught terrapins almost always develop some problems when taken out of a highly brackish environment and then put into freshwater. It may be that various bacteria and fungus are always present on the terrapin but are kept in check by the salt and then when they are suddenly in a freshwater base they take hold and cause infection.
