Eating gravel

Hi everyone, I had suspected my 7 mo old dbts were eating the 1/4 inch gravel in the tank. Now I know they are. I moved them to their new 65 gallon tank today and there is no gravel in there. Well, they pooped out like 20-30 pieces of gravel in the first 10 minutes! Is this a big deal? I am wondering whether to put the old gravel from the old tank in there or should I buy even smaller, finer gravel so they can pass it easier? I dont want to buy bigger gravel because even if they cant choke it down now they will later when they get bigger. Thanks for any suggestions. Carole PS I thought about no gravel but I really like the way it looks and also that it hides the occasional poop the hasnt gotten sucked up by the filter yet.
