One of our market salvage terrapin appears to have edema. Limbs are swollen and stiff. I am thinking that the abrupt change or drop in salinity between wild conditions and captive conditions may have disrupted the osmosis and caused her to retain fluids. Her body fluids might be higher in salt than ambient water. She is in a tank with bay water now, but it may be less salty then her normal conditions. Any thoughts on this condition or experiences with treating it? I thought I might place her in treated water with higher salinity, and see if that helps. The higher salt content of the ambient water may help to activate osmosis, relieve excess water retention and equalize body fluids. Thank you for any recommendations or suggestions. The change in salinity definitely has an effect on the amount of retained fluid… if playing around with the salinity doesn’t work, it could indicate a problem with the kidneys…. Julie
