Good news, all 7 of the eggs that were laid in early February have either hatched or are currently hatching. The other female has begun laying eggs too, in the water. Luckily, I had just fed her and put her back in her tank when she dropped one egg. I quickly pulled it out of the water. Then she laid two more, each about 5 minutes apart. They were all dropped in the water! She has walked out to the sand box plenty of time and yet she didn’t know to lay her eggs there as the other female had done back in February. Is this a problem that will go away with time as the wild caught gets better accustomed to captivity or will she always be dropping eggs in the water? She still has more eggs in her belly but I can’t stay and watch her forever. I stayed about another hour and a half after her third egg and she didn’t drop any more. I am currently building a nice outdoor pond for the terrapins and totally enclosing it with hardware cloth to keep predators out. I am hoping that this may help things.
