jac westMay 19, 2008 at 9:55 pm #21844It depends on how long they were in the water. I follow the rule of thumb, that all eggs should be treated like they were fertile and viable until they prove otherwise…or hatch.Several years back, I had a side neck who laid in the water. Some of the eggs had been gotten by her pool mates, but two were still whole. I tried incubating them even tho I had no idea how long they were in the water. To my surprise and delight, one of them did hatch.Maybe you’ll get lucky too.Jacquilittlebit
sawil@comcast.netMay 20, 2008 at 12:47 am #21845I have had this happen several times and the aggs have proven fertile! Unfortunately, they have hatched and died a few hours later? My female has never had any babies that lived. I dont know what it is, I think the eggs hatched prematurely every time and the newbies were not developed enough to live. I have stopped breeding her b/c it is hard on our family and seems cruel for the hatchlings to come so far and die. Myabe I am doing soething wrong or she has something wrong? If anyone has suggestions, please chime in. I definately have the environment right and I boost her diet with calcium and vitamins. Anyways, back the topic, go for it! let me know how it goes or if you have questions. One thing I can advise if you have never incubated eggs is to set the environment up right(temp, humidity, etc), mark the eggs to always keep them right side up and LEAVE them alone as much as possible. Don not disturb them. thanks and good luck
