I used to clean my turtle’s poop out of the tank at least once a day (whenever I saw any). However, as he is growing he doesn’t poop every day. I have increased the amount of food I’m giving him but I’m afraid I didn’t increas it enough. His shell is about 3″ and I feed him about 7 reptomin pellets a day. Is this too little? I am worried because he isn’t pooping like he used to… I know that sounds weird.
I use the mazuri and aquamax round pellets and anything above a yearling eats an average of 15-20 per day each. I try to hold them to that. A yearling is usually 3 1/2-4 inch, by their 2nd summer 4 inches plus depending usually on sex.Thats just my experience, don’t have it down to a science. All, I feed Tetra JumboMin (I think it’s now called TetraCichlid Jumbo Sticks) and a product I buy at Costco called Phillips Crab Meat. It’s in a 1 lb can, is pasturized and refrigerated (not frozen). They all love it, as it is a natural part of their diet. No chemicals are added. Costs $13.99 a can but lasts quite a while. I don’t concern myself with the products of elimination: if they are enthusiastic eaters and active, I presume all is well. I keep them in a 5′ diameter kids wading pool with about 85 gallons of water—I change at least 5 gallons every day, siphoning out detritus. In between, I use the net to extract anything offensive. Soon they will be relocated to a 28 acre lake outside San Antonio, Texas. I had given some thought to locating a viable population of Texans along the Gulf. These two are CBB and indicate no health issues, so I thought repatriation within their natural range would be OK. I don’t know what others may think about this, and would welcome any input. And, of course, old Bayou Bob and his minions lurk.
I will admit I do think they poop everyday, given the foul tank when tanked. In the pond I don’t notice. I know my females look fed almost overfed sometimes,my males stay scrawny or fit. Isn’t that the way it is with most of our human population,hehe. Let’s see in comparison to baby poop to adult poop. I remember changing alot of diapers. I would say babies poop more often but yearlings on up may poop less often but more of it. How is that buddy….Haven’t heard your input yet on my pellet amounts yet,hehe… Lisa
