Hello all, I am a new member of this group. I have had dbts in the past, and currently have a baby. Salty is growing, and very active with a terrific personaliry already ๐ I am concerned however, that I can’t seem to find a turtle food he will eat. He will eat Phoenix worms, mealworms, and occasionally a small dubia roach. But if I put regular turtle food in his tank it sinks and dissolves. As I said, he’s growing, and appears healthy. Is it ok to continue with the worms? (He also will eat shrimp and bits of fish) Thanks to everyone!

That’s a tough one. I’ve never had a hatchling that didn’t accept some type of commercial turtle pellet. Try the “tough love” approach and don’t give him anything accept the pellets for a week or so and see if he eventually eats them. Hopefully, that will do the trick. Good luck to you!

What I’ve done in the past is crush the commercial pellets very fine then slowly cover more and more of the food you feed it with the fine crushed pieces so the turtle begins to associate this smell as food. When the turtle is eating foods completely covered then try the tough love approach and it may help your chances of success. It takes me roughly 3-4 weeks so it is a lot of work. On a positive note, I do this with my kids and it worked 75% of the time ๐ I’ve done this with 2 turtles and so far 100% success ๐ Good luck!Jeff MSent from my iPhone

Greetings. When I got Aggie, he would eat commercial food; then I made the mistake of giving him a few dried shrimps & the lil’ booger then refused the healthier diet of the commercial hatchling food. It took only about 6 days or so before he finally got the message. {Tough loves sucks! LOL} I like the idea of crushing the hatchling food and using it as a coating ~ thanx for the great reply!
