I just got a terrapin. I’m trying to get a seperate feeding tank for it. Couple of problems though. 1. Is it okay to not fill up the feeding tank with water? Would it eat on land? 2. I’m worry that my terrapin isn’t eating. I’m pretty sure it is not eating the reptile sticks. It seems to take only a bite every now and then when I leave fish in there. 3. Which leads to my third problem. I’m not sure when I could feed my terrapin.
Nathan AileoFebruary 25, 2002 at 2:47 pm #16776Just get a rubbermaid cat litter pan from wal-mart for a buck. The separate feeding bin is just to keep food wastes and often the usual immediate bowel movement out of the tank. I use bins for feeding aquatics and just run the sink and adjust til I get a lukewarm water, put in enough for the turtle to sit just under the water, put in the turtle and food, and give it 20-30 mins to eat and hopefully pass a stool. If you count sticks or whatever food item you put in, then you can tell what it’s eating. For babies I feed daily, then every other day, juveniles every 2nd or 3rd day, and adults 3rd or less, judging by thier chubbiness (chubby is bad, feed less). We also do it at the same time each time, usually in the evenings around 6, since that’s when we are home and can do it. Some turtles learn the time, too, and won’t get excited if I walk up to the tank at noon, but will at 6. —-Original Message Follows—- I just got a terrapin.
