I have a female here I am fostering and since I got her maybe about a week now…? She has been breathing with a whistle at the surface of the water…. now the reason I don’t think it is RI is that I haven’t seen any other signs progressing into an RI… such as swim bladder problems and breathing continuously at the surface. She swims really hard surfaces and whistles to breath in… but only does it once or twice before she goes back to breathing normal. I have a 7 year old cooter that since she was a sub-adult has developed what i have deemed asthma.. just because she whistles after swimming hard but only does it when she is swimming hard. I must say also that this female… (sorry!) but very very over weight… probably the fattest I have ever seen a turtle … which means she was really loved but probably didn’t have a lot of room to exercise…. sooo this is all my guess. I have plenty of experience with RI’s so I will watch out for the other signs and take her in as soon as I see something else develop BUT I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this with their turtles… a type of asthma in spoiled unexercised turtles? Such as my cooter and this female? Michaela Mullen
