Please clarify the preferred filter equipment. I went out this evening to price them. Is the Aquaclear 350 about $30? Also, this has been discussed before I’m sure, but could someone give me a treatment for puffy eyes on terrapins. I have a few hatchlings which have developed this problem. Thanks MW “he who knows best knows how little he knows.”

I’ve found http://www.thatpetplace.com to have about the lowest supply prices. They list Hagen Aquaclear 300 (300 gph) for $21.95 no. HG0285 and Aquaclear 500 (428gph) for $34.95 no. HG0290 Terrapin Station at USNA/GP wrote:

Since we also have a cruddy filter, something called Dive Clean (that gets dirty in a day or two), I was also looking into the AquaClear. So if I bought an Aquaclear from a place like Thatpetplace.com, would buying the $21.99 filter be enough to get up and running? Is all of the necesary stuff included or do I need to buy some additional little accoutrements (sp)? The pet store recommended that we get the filter that we have, but I’m not sure they know much at all since they thought our DBT was a tortoise and the other pet store called her a box turtle. The Aquaclears ship with a foam block and a bag of carbon to run out of the box. You can add a bag of ammonia absorber at extra cost. So far, I prefer putting two blocks of foam in the Aquaclear 300 with a carbon bag sandwiched in between. I don’t think it’s possible to get two foam blocks in the 500, though. If you’re buying mail order, the web page will usually show you the replacement parts available. Might as well order extra foam blocks and extra carbon bags when you order the filter to save on time and shipping. These items run $1.69 to $2.99. Depending on your tank set up, you may want an extension tube, but they do come with one 6 ” extension. Happy filtering! Todd Rowena Tan wrote:
