well, i have a little money to toy around with now. i think i have finally figured out my plan. first of all, remember how i had the ten gallon and i got the biowheel? well the biowheel won’t work unless the water is about an inch from the brim of the tank. i was disappointed but, ces la vie. anyway, i have about 130.00 to spend. i am going to follow advice and at least get the fluval 204. that will last me even in a 40 gallon tank right? also, instead of the ten gallon tank she is in rightnow, i am going to get a rubbermaid tub. i saw one that was a lot longer than deep and should suffice. i will probably get the bubble air thing you said to get. the only real question is what type of water heater (that is relatively inexpensive) can i get to go in a rubbermaid??? do you think i really need a water heater? don’t they like their water cool? let me know what you think. also, i was told that when you feed diamondbacks frozen food (brine shrimp specifically) you should unthaw it first, but i recently read that someone in this group puts whole cubes of frozen bloodworms in thier tank sometimes. let me know what you think. thanks — Lindsay
Jeff BrzezinskiJuly 18, 2002 at 3:34 pm #17396Since its summer now, you might be able to hold off on the heater for a little while, at least. You should get some type of cheap thermometer for the water, however, so you can at least keep an eye on it. As a cold-blooded creature, I don’t think they really like it cool, but depending on who you talk to, people generally keep their turtles somewhere between 72-85 degrees F. Come fall/winter or sooner if you find you need one before that, you should be able to get just about any fully-submersible water heater (at least 150W). I’ve heard more people recommend Ebo-Jager than any other brand for its robustness. Some people (myself included) use a Tronic heater with the little plastic cage accessory to protect your turtle from the hot glass, and also to protect the glass from your rowdy turtle. Either of those should only run you ~$20 if you buy online. As long as the glass of the heater isn’t directly resting on the Rubbermaid container, it should be okay. -Jeff — nikkicoco11
