The leading filters seem to be the 350 and the 404. The latter pumps less water (310 gph rather than 350), but has the ability to run biomedia without the splash of a biowheel. I’m trying to decide on which filter to buy. If you use the 350, please tell us why, and if you don’t use the biowheel, tell us how you deal with ammonia and nitrites. If you use the 404, please tell us how you maintain the bio-element. Also tell us if the 404 gets noisy over time

After trying every kind of filter, I think the best for turtles are the Aquaclears. They hang on the outside of the tank. You can drop the water level way down and it will still pull water up the tube. The largest pull up water at least a foot. I use the 500’s on my 70 gallon tanks. I think they are easier to clean than canister filters. -Rick jthompson@… wrote:

Another vote for Aquaclears! I was reluctant to try them as they seemed too simple and everyone says turtles require canister filters. The Aquaclears are easy to clean and the big foam blocks do the job. Todd greentrees wrote:

I don’t see how any fully submersed bio-element could be as effective as a Bio-Wheel. Personally, I’ve got an Emperor 400 filtering a 40 gal. tank. Chun
