Attachments :Hey everyone, I requested to be in the group because I am an avid Turtle lover…I am part of the Sea Turlte Preservation Society in Satellite Beach, FL. I was called out to rescue a sea turtle from a pool, but as you can tell by the pictures it turned out to be a Diamondback Terrapin, of course I did not know that at the time until I went on line and did some searching. I was wondering if anyone lives in the area and would like to take care of this little lady, or should I release it? If I do release it, where should I release it? I don’t want it to end up being a dinner for a predator, I know that it is a life cycle thing, but I believe in intervention also at times. So feel free to contact me if you live near Satellite Beach and want to adopt the little gal. Thanks…abro9914@…
Hi, Seems like since we’re (people in general) the ones to blame for dwindling terrapin populations, why not do something positive and try to give the hatchling a better chance at survival? Headstarting greatly increases their survival rates, so to me, it would seem like the best option unless someone here is privy to pristine hatchling habitat in your area that is relatively predator-safe (unlikely). Let me know if you don’t get any legitimate response, (by legitimate, I mean responses that don’t require you to ship the hatchling) and I should be able to locate someone nearby willing to assist. Thanks Stephen, That was my main intention…I really do not want to let her go in the wild and then have her taken by someone else or eaten by a predator. At least I know I am on the right track in my mind about saving species, since we(humans) are the ones that have been destroying animals habitats.
