Diamondback Terrapin Conservation Internship_Summer 2007 The South Carolina Aquarium is seeking a qualified individual with a passion for wildlife conservation specifically towards diamondback terrapin preservation. The successful candidate will be eager to teach others about the importance of protecting this species and must be willing to travel up and down the coast of South Carolina to complete this task. Major responsibilities will include: _ Travel to venues along the coast to give educational presentations about diamondback terrapins. _ Distribution and installation of BRDs (bycatch reduction devices) in crab pots brought to each workshop. Other responsibilities when not traveling will include: Conducting daily conservation oriented programs at the Aquarium. Handling marine invertebrates while engaging guests at touch tank. Using interpretive skills to teach guests about animals including a lesser anteater, alligators, terrapins and a variety of snakes and birds. Aid education staff as necessary. Requirements include: Bachelor_s Degree or currently enrolled in college courses related to wildlife or wildlife conservation Background in environmental science and education Public speaking abilities Willing to be flexible with scheduling Willing to work with a fun group of people Semester Available: Summer 2007 Desired Start Date: Mid May 2007 (arrival date is flexible) End Date: Mid August 2007 Classification: Bachelor_s Degree or currently enrolled in college courses related to wildlife or wildlife conservation Wage: Volunteer Application Deadline: 5 p.m., March 1, 2007 Travel to Charleston and housing will be the responsibility of the applicant.
