Hey everyone! Well, Mark sent me some chesapeakes the end of last month…3 gals and a male. Was sooo excited to finally get some. One gal was with eggs… and i’m even MORE excited tonight…. ok… it’s one egg… but there should be more in there… didn’t want to disturb her. found one egg on the surface of the sand just a few minutes ago. she was digging holes earlier… and i think one of her holes is filled but i’ll check very carefully in the morning. I’ll let her have some peace just in case she let one loose and more are to come. The one egg has a very slight dent but seems firm… could be from me or the vet feeling her out a little more than a week ago… oops. (Felt like there were at least 2 or 3 in there). i’m incubating it just to be sure. it is pretty much a creamy white but has a very slight pinkish tinge to it… i didn’t flip it over or anything. Temp set at 80’F in my small styrobox with a tiny aquar heater in the bit of water in the bottom… the glad sandwich box hangs perfectly from the tapered sides and ridge to suspend it over the water very securely. Eggie is half buried in the moist perlite as described on Jonathan’s very cool updated site. i’ve got two thermometers in there… they aren’t the best… just a floating thermometer stuck in the perlite and a flukers surface thermometer resting on top of the perlite. I think i want to invest in one of those cool digital guys with the probes… any comments on their reliability or brands etc? the fluker surface thing seems pretty much useless in there… the floaters i have seem to all correspond to each other pretty well but they are far from instantaneous… nor do i know that what they all agree on is the actual temp. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. so excited! My first eggie. Hope i don’t mess it up! Michelle AbhainnShell: michellemcguffin284@… ICQ: 277784176
