Hello- I wanted very badly to adopt a dbt from Lori and Jason but my huge aquarium is no longer available… so now I am considering a hatchling as I have several small tanks and can get/build larger one by next spring. My question is, as I have ALL the supplies for this size now, would it be OK for several months to use a 10 gal for a single hatchling. I realize bigger is better and that is my plan for next spring. Would the little guy be ok for a bit this way? Also, if raised in fresh water it is my understanding they can always be in fresh water-is this true? I have no problem adding the brackish water but if it’s not needed or even harmful if they are not used to it I certainly won’t. Thanks. ~Francie Mom to 4 Russians, 3 cats, 2 cockatiels, 1 dog, 7 hermit crabs & soon 3 three-toed box turtles~ __________________________________________________Do You Yahoo!?Tired of spam? Yahoo! Diamondback Terrapin WorldSeptember 11, 2004 at 1:31 am #20261Hi Francie, One diamondback terrapin hatchling would do fine in a ten gallon for up to possible a year. They normally hit 4 inches in the eight months. I would never suggest keeping a 4 inch turtle in a 10 gallon tank but they will survive as long as there are no other turtles in the tank. Otherwise there might be fighting. You can keep captive born hatchlings in fresh water in most cases, as long as the water is kept very clean. If you are looking for DBT hatchlings I do have a small amount of Texas DBTs available. They are $65 each plus shipping. Thanks Jonathan http://www.diamondbackterrapin.com Francie
