I just noticed this. The area in front of my juvey female WCT’s back legs is puffy. So much so that it looks puffed out from her shell! I’m really very worried. Thanks for all your expertise as I am a novice. Kathleen

how often is she fed? my female has the same thing.she is 3 1/2 inches and eats alot! twice a day. but i limit the amount. is the part from the plastron to the carapace(around the tail) puffed, or the part in front of the leg in the hole? she may be just chunky. any other changes? acting or habitat? karen

Kathleen, they tend to carry their extra weight there. Is the puffiness the same on both sides of her body? If so she is probably just eating well. Any abnormal behavior? Lisa — In diamondbackterrapins@yahoogroups.com, “zacjambra”

Hi Karen – First of all it’s the part in front of the leg not toward the tail. She’s hungry ALL THE TIME! I feed her a small amount 2-3 times a day. Hopefully being a tad chunky is all that is wrong. I’ll cut back on the food. I just got her a 96 gallon tank today (not set up yet); and the thought of her being sick is so upsetting. Thanks, Kathleen

No, I’m going to cut back on her chow and hope that’s all it is. Thanks to you and Karen; I feel a little less worried now.

Ha , my girl has a great appetite too!! she is lucky to get such a nice tank. how long have you had her? i think she is just chunky. my girl has the same pouches of flab there also. i get so upset if she isnt feeling right either. they are too cute! just keep an eye on her though , just in case. (for any changes) dont forget the new tank will stress her out for some time. they dont like change. Karen
