Home › Forums › Diamondback Terrapins › Hi, question about skin discoloration…
Hi, I am newer to this list, I haven’t posted much, just been lurking. Now I have a reason to post. We have adopted 2 more diamondbacks about 3 weekends ago. They are at least 13 years old (they were wild caught but can not be released back into the wild because they were kept in captivity for 13 years… ). I believe they are the chesapeake bay subspecies and they are beautiful, maybe a little fat… We noticed this weekend that their skin has a discoloration now, I think it looks like they were toasted (sorry it’s gross sounding but they have a light brown “tan”). We couldn’t find any reference to this in our turtle books and we have a vet appointment for friday, but can anyone help us? Could it be sunburn? They bask under a UV 7.0 light, and we don’t know what conditions they were kept in before.. any ideas or experience with this? Thanks Michelle and Jeff
Hi Michelle and Jeff, Congratulations on your new additions. Now is the discoloration over the entire skin or in patches? If it is in patches, it could be old skin that has not quite shed off yet. Otherwise, it could be an infection of sorts but I tend to think it’s the former. Maybe a little more detailed description might help. Keep in touch regarding the vet visit. Cheers.
