I killed my ultimate favorite turtle (in my entire collection!) today. This is (was) Nancy. She was my only Chesapeake, first born out of a cluth of 6. It was such a stupid mistake. I bought a sponge to place under a power head in my DBt tank. I noticed last night that they were eating it. I thought they woudl stop. My B/f calls me today to inform me that they where still eating it so I asked him to remove it. But I told him to keep the power head running to maintain the circulation. That was my ultimate mistake. My gorgeous Nacy got her/his leg stuck in the intake of the power head and drowned. On top of this i even thought about that happening when my b/f called me, but i didn’t think that this woudl happen again. And I use the word again because i almost lost a slider about 5 years ago the same way (but I managed to save him with CPR). AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh Thanks for listening, and learn and never make the same mistake! Julie way up here in the great north!!

Julie, I sure am sorry about your loss as I have lost a couple of young dbts because of a dumb mistake myself. A bag of grass seed fell into the tank and when I found it I fished out as much as I could and thought (stupidly) that it was just “grass seed”…what possible harm could come of it. FUNGICIDES ARGHHHHHHHHHHH! Actually 3 died out of the five in the tank. So I know exactly how you feel. Vickie

Julie- So sorry to hear about the loss of your dbt )-: Don’t beat yourself up over it, even the most competent people goof up–and I’m far from one of the most competent dbt sorts here so I’m just keeping my fingers crossed. Ro
