My dbt is acting quite strange. I don’t know if anyone can help me. She started swimming funny like 2-3 weeks ago where she uses only her front legs and not her back legs..she appeared to be constipated with a rock, since she eats them all the time. She didn’t eat much and then seemed to pass it and was swimming normally. I go to college so during my spring break I brought her home and put her in a 10 gallon since I couldn’t transport the 40 she’s used to. She didn’t eat at all but I figured it was from the change of scenery. Now she’s been back in the 40 gallon for about a week and she once again is swimming funny, she can barely get from the bottom of the tank to the top to breathe. She is still not eating and is scared of me. She’s usually excited to come out and see me, to eat and play, but now she hides from me. Yesterday I was holding her and she got so nervous she peed on me. Also she’s very sensitive to having her shell touched and I’m wondering if she might have injured in when she fell out of a suitcase during break (long story). She also tips to her right side when she’s swimming in the water. I lost a dbt last Oct because of namonia (sp?) and he didn’t eat, couldn’t walk normal or swim, stopped using his back legs, and tipped in the water. Does anyone know what I can do? I took my previous turtle to the vets and spent a huge amount to try and save him, but it was already too late. If anyone has any suggestions, it’d be most appreciated. Thanks, Elaine
macrospilotaApril 6, 2002 at 10:40 pm #16979What do you feed her? It sounds like a B-12 deficiency. Keep her in shallow water for now where she won’t have to swim to far to breathe. BBM
chris brattonApril 6, 2002 at 11:25 pm #16980if she is swimming at an angle, and seems like she can not stay laqteral, she more than likely has pneumonia/lower respiratory infection. Try increasing her heat, but she will need antibiotics, baytril works wonders. chris — macrospilota
