Scott tried to post this on the egroup but for some reason he was not able to post it. He forwarded it to me and asked if I can post it for him. It is an interesting e-mail. Thanks Jonathan ******************************************************************** Hi – My name is Scott Boykin and I’ve been studying M.t.macrospilota in Tampa Bay for the past four years. Terrapins have become my favorite turtles – exceeding sea turtles – which I’ve studied in the Dry Tortugas, Pacific and Caribbean. I have several macrospilotas, two centrata’s, two littoralis and one M.t.terrapin. I’d love to find some tequesta’s and pileata’s. I’m working on forming a non-profit called TERF – the Terrapin Education and Research Foundation. One of the first projects would to to create and distribute educational brochures to nature parks and environmental ed. centers throughout the range of Malaclemys. I’d also like to begin a small scale breeding program for each of the seven subspecies and provide captive reared hatchlings as exhibit animals for much needed education at Nature parks, etc. throughout the range. I’m working on accreditation, permits and grants. Definitely willing to trade a macrospilota or two for a tequesta or pileata – any out there? Cheers, C. Scott Boykin (727) 898-5084 *** For those of you who love the macrospilota’s – I’ve taken plastron/carapace shots of the 125 adults I’ve marked at one site in Tampa Bay during the past four years – in case your interested in looking at the color variations – about 30% have white heads – the rest are about equally divided between gray heads or a leopard pattern – some have no resemblance at all of oranates. I had several field days where I caught over 20 adults – keeps me going… Look forward to hearing from someone – I love these amazing turtles.
