Quick question- if fish within a Terapin’s tank develops Ick what is the best plan of treatment? Remove the fish or treat the tank? If you treat the tank, what do you treat with? Thanks, Dana
treat with salt… 1 tablespoon of pickling salt / 10 gallons shoudl take care of it. Or increase the temperature of the water for a few days ( about 82-86F). Julie
I always hate to disagree with anyone on the group but 1 table spoon per 10 gallons really isn’t enough salt to do anything. 1 cup per ten gallons is the minimum amount of salt to effect the water, this is still not enough to make it really brackish. Good Luck JonathanJulie Tougas
but we are talking about treating the fish…. I assumed that the terrapins are in fresh water…so that means the fish are freshwater… Julie

Okay…ummm..sorry, MY mistake. You are both correct b/c I forgot to state that I was indeed asking abt treating the DBT. Sorry for the miscommunication. Thank you both. Hi Dana, Thanks, Chun and I are friends and we have been lucky enough to help educate others about DBTs. I have done several speaking engagements and it is still amazing to me with the internet how many people that own turtle and even diamondback terrapins don’t really know much about DBTs. I think the more information we can get out there the better. I know we have both talked to people all over the world and I think for the most part people are having much better success today with DBTs then they were 10 years ago.
