hello all, has anyone ever seen the insides of a terrapin temporarly come out its back-side hole? i have only seen this happen 3 times with one of my terrapins and each time i can’t believe what i am seeing…it is tough to describe, i assume it is part of the intestines and stomach? it looks like a red flower with a tube going from the flower back inside the turtle. it stays outside for about 10 secods before he takes it back in. other than this the turtles seems healy, eats fine (zoo med and dried shrimp), basks regularly, has no sign of skin/shell infection…lives with some fish and one other small terrapin in 40 gallon freshwater breeder tank. any ideas?
I’m no expert and you may get may opinions from others on this web site BUT if it is the same that we see in land tortoises – it’s HIS penis! The first time one of our “baby” sulcata’s showed himself – we too were shocked! We didn’t know what sex the tortoise was – but then knew after that display. It’s normal for our male’s to display themselves from time to time and it has nothing to do with a female being around. Hope this is all it is -( or possible prolaps would be my next guess??!! Hope not) I’m sure you will get your answer over the group today. Sharon ingsy wrote:
