Hello everyone, I haven’t yet to comment on here so I figured I would say hello and introduce myself. I am getting my start as an independent filmmaker/photographer and have been a lifelong turtle enthusiast. I grew up researching and observing Maryland’s native turtles in the wild, occasionally getting the treat of catching my favorite turtle, the diamondback, in a crab pot down in the bay (always big females which I would immediately release). Last year I finally got my own diamondback terrapins after researching how to actually take care of the sometimes difficult species for a long time. One of the two died as a hatchling after I did all I could and now just the female who was captive bred with relatives supposedly from New Jersey, she looks like a concentric Carolina but I know the species ranges aren’t exactly pure these days) is about 3 1/2″, healthy as could be, and as most adolescents, already starting to give me attitude. There is no doubt in my mind that they have more personality then any other turtle I have dealt with. That devilish smile of hers always cracks me up, I feel like she is up to no good, haha. Currently I am looking for a male: Chesapeake phase, regular northern, or a Carolina to accompany her before she gets too set in her ways. I’ve looked at the breeder page and didn’t see any available right now, I know the hatchlings will start to be available towards the end of summer. If possible, I’d like the male to be already started, 2-4″, captive bred of course, and living in fresh water. Does anyone have or know someone with an extra male they could sell? I am interested in studying their habits, interaction, and just getting a close up look to better help me understand these fascinating creatures, especially to help with a documentary that I will describe more in another post. Thank you all so much, I hope to contribute much here and appreciate all your time! I will post some various pictures soon. -Scott McDaniel jedivoodoo@… 443-340-7980
